Gary Johnson Will Not Be President!

distress flag

Neither will John Kasich, Bernie Sanders, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, nor the Green Party’s Jill Stein. That’s just a fact of life, and we’d all better get used to it.

In the 2008 election pitting McCain against Obama, I voted for Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate. I also quit my lifelong membership in the GOP and re-registered as “Decline To State”, this state’s version of Independent. That was because I saw McCain as only very slightly less “progressive” than Obama, a view I still hold to this very day.

There was also the potential benefit in a McCain loss that the GOP – which had already meandered to the Left over the post-Reagan years – would learn a valuable lesson from such a defeat and mend their errant ways.

Well, that clearly didn’t happen, as the Establishment GOP kept to their chosen path, the result of which has finally been a populist uprising resulting in the nomination of outsider Donald Trump as their nominee. Good, bad, or indifferent, that’s the way it is.

I wish I could go into that polling booth in November and cast my ballot for someone else, but I can’t if I want my vote to have any actual relevance, and wishing I could won’t change anything. If wishes were horses, beggars would be riding instead of walking.

The further reality is that even if Trump hadn’t thrown his hat into the ring I’m not sure I would have been able to vote for a real conservative anyway. Over the last decade plus, the Establishment GOP has constantly crept ever-further leftward, scorning the true conservatives in their ranks. How else to explain the nominations of John McCain and Mitt Romney? That, too, is a fact, and further proof that the Establishment GOP is not just stuck on stupid, but super-glued in place. The GOP is in reality the PSP – the Perpetually Stupid Party.

So where does that leave us?

The two major parties have named their candidates, and one thing we know for certain: come January either Clinton or Trump WILL be taking the oath of office as President.

In Trump we have an unknown. A guy who CLAIMS to be conservative, yet has a record of backing leftist causes and policies. An unmitigated blowhard. Someone not familiar with the details and minutiae of policy. Absolutely no record when it comes to elective experience or voting history.

Basically, he’s a pig in a poke. We don’t really know what we’d be getting. He could end up being great; he could end up being an absolute disaster. His presidency could fall somewhere in between. Who knows?

His choice of Mike Pence as his running mate gives me a sound basis for the hope that he’ll follow through on his vow to select solid conservatives as his appointees, both judicial and otherwise. And judicial appointments, particularly to the Supreme Court, are a huge but neglected issue this election.

no hillaryThen there’s Clinton, certainly not an unknown. In fact, we know FOR CERTAIN what we’d be getting with her, and frankly, it’s an outright disaster for this country. An unindicted federal criminal with a pathological bent for lying. A scandal-ridden crone married to a convicted perjurer and accused serial rapist who’d be re-occupying the White House. A corruptocrat whose policy decisions can seemingly be bought with large “donations” to her sham “foundation”. A woman who can’t point to a single policy success in her term as Secretary of State, and whose big claim to qualification for the office is that she has a uterus. A leftist ideologue who’s vowed to continue, and even expand upon, the disastrous policies of Obama. A die-hard anti-gun fanatic. A woman who will, with absolutely no doubt, appoint the most leftist jurists she can find to nominate to the Supreme Court, changing the dynamic of that institution for decades to come.

For me the defining moment came while I watched FBI Director Comey spend 14 minutes detailing Clinton’s criminal actions, then spend about 1 minute declaring that the FBI would recommend that she NOT be prosecuted for those actions. I was absolutely stunned. As far as I was concerned, that moment defined the depth of the corruption of the Dem/socialist party, and the Obama/Clinton cabal in particular. It’s an outright and blatant corruptocracy.

So there you have it. A summary of two candidates, one of whom WILL be the next President of these United States. It’s certainly clear, at least to me, that no matter how bad a President Trump MAY turn out to be, Clinton would DEFINITELY be orders of magnitude worse.

We conservatives pride ourselves on voting our conscience and our principles. But I think there’s one overriding principle that overshadows all others: the ultimate future of our country. I believe this is the single most important presidential election at least in my lifetime.

I’ve made my decision. In spite of everything I’ve written over the last year, in light of the issues I’ve outlined here I’ve decided to cast my vote for Trump.

What about you?

    Brian…
is it groundhog day, again? 🙂 Nope, Not. HRC. It was never going to be her, but I can go all the way backward to BillyJeff to say why!

Trump is not the best choice, is he? The media never prints anything about him unless it is maligning and the left has now bought the Dark vs. Light theory while Clinton is held above the law.

If we are the shining light, we better pick someone other than the DSP, too!! 🙂 I cannot believe how uninformed the people seem to be, at this point more than any other. The willful blindness and ignorance is just mind-blowing. They honestly believe that because HRC was not charged, she is not guilty and put her on a pedestal as having done “great” things. What great things? The same “great” that Obama has bestowed upon us? I could go on…and I will not.

Here’s hoping a vote for Trump is a vote to take our Country back.

    • BrianR says:

Gawd, Nee, isn’t this just an absolute mess?

      • Nee says:

Remember back in the TH days when you persused that site of my Army pal? I really pissed him off today and as per usual, he showed his true colors. I have been ignoring his FB posts that have to do with politics, but today’s was too rich: “The DNC had Katy Perry and the RNC had Chachi. Advantage: Lady in White. I said: So the criminal who was not charged had a newer starlet on…no big deal unless your only criteria is a pretty singer because she doesn’t know anything about politics!!! 😛
Mwahhahaha!! He told me not to post such vile and disgusting things on his timeline! To which I responded that he apparently only approves of his own humor and did he not see my emoji with the stuck out tongue…This was via private messages. And then he called me delusional and unbalanced…so I told him to block me, but he won’t. He’s so wrapped in himself that he needs thousands of “friends” that he can pretend to like so they can read his self important Facebook banter. I accept people of all opinions and because he is an Army pal, I will not trash him anywhere but to his face. He also claims to adore me as a friend…unless I f*ck up his perceptions!
        #TripleLSyndrome #ifIpretendlongenough #truth hahahahahahahaha!

      • BrianR says:

Good on ya, Nee. You go, girl!

Only the absolute brain-dead think the “star-power” of a candidate’s backers means anything. Of course, to be a Dem/socialist, I think you have to be brain-dead anyway, so I may just be restating the obvious.

  2. Hardnox says:

Well stated bro. As you know I campaigned door to door in three counties for Cruz here in rural Virginia. It became clear to me that few liked him nor cared what he stood for. On the other hand many approved of Trump and his rhetoric, especially when it came to illegals and muslim immigration. Initially, I thought Trump as another version of “American idol” candidate BUT his message seems to resonate with many Americans including me.

I know we all rooted for Cruz because of his stance on the Constitution but the real difference between Cruz and Trump is that if asked what time it is Cruz would respond by telling how to build a clock whereas Trump simply looks at his watch as says the current time. People like that plainspeak.

Looking back it is doubtful that Cruz would have won the nomination anyway considering the GOP would have probably sabotaged him. Further, I wonder how Cruz would fare against Hillary in a head to head match considering the media. Trump fares much better in the media controlled arena. Maybe, Trump is the right guy at the right time to counter a Hildabeast machine.

I remain hopeful that a President Trump will surround himself with good people. He’s not successfully running 300+ businesses without good staff. Further, one only needs to look at a person’s children to see what kind of leader he will be. Trump’s kids are first rate from what I have seen and that says a lot about him.

Hillary on the other hand is a full blown socialist as clearly stated last night at her coronation. THAT and the flag burning commies in the crowd should be a crystal clear distinction for anyone with a braincell.

In the end, we have a choice between an American loving flawed Donald Trump, warts and all, or an America hating Witch who is Satan’s sister.

It’s a no-brainer for me. Hillary is unthinkable. This is our last grab at the ring. If Hillary wins, game over. Turn out the lights.

    • BrianR says:

Yep, Nox, the Hildebeest is evil, frankly, and that’s not a word I bandy about lightly.

I’ll do absolutely everything in my power to try to keep her out of power.

      • Hardnox says:

Exactly, which is why our crew at “Nox & Friends is doing everything possible to help drag Trump over the finish line.

I wish other bloggers would do the same. We have plenty of time to bash or steer Trump later. Casting doubt towards any fence sitters is unproductive and suicidal in my opinion. Every vote counts.

      • BrianR says:

Nox, I think we have to respect and understand the conflict conservatives feel on this issue, though I clearly agree with you.

Give it time. We still have a long way to the actual election, and we have the upcoming debates. I have no doubt that those will sway voters.

I’d also bet that there will be at least SOME who will still openly oppose Trump, but who will do the deed in the privacy of the ballot box.

        Time will tell…

  3. Virginia Patriot says:

    Brian,
Trump was probably the only thing that saved us from another flaccid Designated Loser from the GOP.
He is the only candidate who has been serious about stopping the illegal alien inundation.
If that is the only thing he accomplishes, that alone might be enough to save America.

    • BrianR says:

VPat, where the hell have YOU been? Long time, pard.

I agree, my friend. And illegal immigration is my #2 issue, right behind gun rights.

      • Virginia Patriot says:

I’ve been reading, but not responding.
Trump is good on guns as well.
Probably better than most we were offered.
        Glad you came around.
This may be our last chance.

      • BrianR says:

Yep, it may very well be, VPat.

Damn, what a sorry state of affairs!

  4. captbogus2 says:

    Welcome aboard, BB.
You chose the unknown lake instead of the ravenous tiger….

  5. garnet92 says:

    Brian,

You already know my feelings about “Hairboy” so there’s no need to expound on them again here. I think he stinks as a presidential candidate and I hope that I’m wrong when I say that I think he’ll stink as a president too. But, as you say, the alternative is unthinkable.

Your last full statement works for me as well since I’ve written literally thousands of words describing all of the reasons that conservatives shouldn’t support Donald Trump.

Nevertheless, I ditto the following statement:

“I’ve made my decision. In spite of everything I’ve written over the last year, in light of the issues I’ve outlined here I’ve decided to cast my vote for Trump.”

God help the United States of America.

  6. captbogus2 says:

Gee, Brian, I got to checking back and can’t find where I posted my parable about the tiger and the lake. So herein I repost. Ignore it if I already put it on your FB or something:

    For those of yo
u who have declared you won’t vote for either, let me ask you a hypothetical.

It is late on a dark and moonless night.
You are standing on a precipice overlooking a large lake.
A tiger has been stalking you for some time and now has you cornered. On a dark night. On the edge of a cliff. Overlooking the lake. Many folks have told you the lake is deep. But some have told you it is very shallow.
But now the time has come and the tiger makes its charge.
    What do you do?
Do you stand there to be devoured?
Or do you leap and pray the lake is deep?
    What do you do?

  7. The Crawfish says:

    a) I’ll end out doing the same thing I’ve done since 92. Senate, House, State Senate, State House GOP. I’ll look at the final Texas polls the weekend before Election Day, and if Hitlery is within 6% of Trump, I’ll vote Trump. Otherwise, I’ll write in Cruz.
    b) Gary Johnson? That idiot aligns 73% with Bernie and wants to gash our military by 42%. I’d vote Bashir al Assad before him.

  8. Grey Neely says:

I cannot vote for Johnson. Crawfish has it correct (“that idiot aligns 73% with Bernie and wants to gash our military by 42%”). So I am left with either Hillary or Trump. With all due respect to dog catchers every where, I wouldn’t vote for Hillary for dog catcher. So I am voting for Trump, praying more than I ever have, and stockpiling guns, ammo, and food with a long shelf life.

But I do disagree with captbogus2’s analogy of the tiger and the lake. I hope that I have the courage to face the tiger with my rifle and fight.

    • BrianR says:

      LOL, Grey!

Good point on the tiger. Hey, we’re gun owners! What’s the point if we’re gonna let a little tiger scare us into a lake!

    • Nee says:

Gray…one of my Army Buddies said he would move aside and watch the charging tiger plunge into the lake…and signed himself “former Tiger Slayer”! I think I’d shoot mid-air to make sure when the tiger hit, there was no last moment save!!!!

  9. clyde says:

Good one as usual, pard. The GOPe has turned what SHOULD have been a slam-dunk into another ” Go Hold My Nose and Vote” moment, all in the purpose of denying a TRUE conservative into the nod. Yes, I too will be pulling the lever for Trump, with the fervent hope he holds true to the rhetoric he is espousing. As for Comey, that assmunch should be tarred and feathered.

    • BrianR says:

      Thanks, Clyde, as always.

“Tarred and feathered” at the least, pard. Just like Roberts, he caved when the chips were down.

      • captbogus2 says:

Yep. Just like Roberts. And just like a shitload of other conservative talking when they ran politicians who get to DC and for some reason vote with the other side. It only bolsters my theory that the left has a strong cadre of PI’s who do nothing but find skeletons in closets. And after all EVERYBODY has a skeleton squirreled away somewhere.

      • BrianR says:

Well, I’m not much of one for conspiracy theories, particularly when I don’t even think one’s necessary. I think it’s more an issue of how unprincipled so many of the GOP hacks are at their core.

Why do you get a “Republican” like McCain always promoting leftist policies, for example? Because he’s not a conservative; he’s only in the GOP to promote his own career.

Who was the only conservative in the running? Cruz, and they hate him, too. I think that tells the story, right there. Over the years they’ve completely abandoned the core values they claim to represent as a party, and have consequently lost the support of their base. I think that’s what we saw in the nomination of Trump: an uprising of the base. Basically, a “burn down the house” uprising, which I think the GOP earned and needed, and which I consider a GOOD thing about Trump’s win of the nomination.

Maybe THIS time they’ll finally get the message.

  10. slowcowboy says:

Howdy Brian. Its been a long, long time since I’ve posted, though I’ve read most of your essays. I am really torn, as I really do not trust Trump. About the only positive is that he is not Hillary, but in the end, what does that get us?

I think he’s said what he’s going to do, and we won’t like it. The wall will not be built, immigration won’t change much, and he’ll continue to expand the power of the executive branch. No, he’s not Hillary, but given that I find the most important issue is not guns or immigration or anything like that but the very foundation of our system of governance, Trump is not much of an option, either.

I am really not sure how I will vote come November…

    • BrianR says:

      Hey there, cowboy!

Good to see you. Believe me, I kno-o-o-w the feeling. This wasn’t an easy decision for me to make either.

But let me stress again, which you kinda acknowledged: Trump’s a pig in a poke. We don’t know what we’re gonna get. He could also end up being great.

But with the Hildebeest, we DO know what we’re gonna get, and she will be a disaster for this country. She’s just plain EVIL, and that’s a word I very seldom use.

As I just wrote in a reply to Buck:

“Over the years they’ve (the GOP) completely abandoned the core values they claim to represent as a party, and have consequently lost the support of their base. I think that’s what we saw in the nomination of Trump: an uprising of the base. Basically, a ‘burn down the house’ uprising, which I think the GOP earned and needed, and which I consider a GOOD thing about Trump’s win of the nomination.

“Maybe THIS time they’ll finally get the message.”

      • slowcowboy says:

Sure, I get that, but people are not asking what they will get once the change occurs. I can’t imagine that the folks will like what Trump gives us. The people who want change don’t seem to be looking at what will remain.

Its a little like Obama: people loved the rhetoric but far too many (on both sides) did not pay attention to the details. This is eerily similar, in my opinion.

And I recognize the alternative is the crazy woman, but that only puts us in a no win situation.

I will likely vote for Trump, though that will be painful. I will only do so because of the other nominee.

      • BrianR says:

Well, that’s pretty much my position, too.

But as I said in the essay, there’s also SCOTUS to consider, with one vacancy already in existence. That ALONE motivates me to vote FOR Trump, not just AGAINST Hildebeest.

And I am reassured by the selection of Pence as VP.

If Trump surrounds himself with advisors like Pence, we could have a pretty good run.

      • The Crawfish says:

And Trump has already released his SCOTUS short list. They all look like pretty good choices.

Hillary said she’d consider Justice Obama.

      • BrianR says:

        Yeah… f-*-*-k!

One of the things I’m looking forward to in January is finally saying a permanent goodbye to that sorry sack of s***. Can you imagine being stuck with that motherf***er for eternity as a SCOTUS justice?

Life just CAN’T be that cruel.

      • The Crawfish says:

Would 41 GOP Senators stand and block???

        Cruz, Lee, maybe Cornyn

      • BrianR says:

        Who in hell knows anymore?

  11. slowcowboy says:

I don’t trust him there, either, as his suggestions of his sister rub me wrong.

We’ll see what happens, and personally, that he is not Hillary is of little consolation to me, though given a choice, he gets it by a nod, reluctantly.

    • BrianR says:

      Yep.

I’ve gotta say, I’m a helluva lot happier than if Jebbie had won. Or most of the other candidates, frankly.

      • captbogus2 says:

Yeah. Little Jeb has the ability to piss me off at the whole Bush Family. Did you catch his holier than thou tirade against Trump the other night? That is one little fat jerk I would gladly spend the night in jail if I could poke him in the snot locker just once.

      • BrianR says:

        Yeah, no s***.

        Jebbie’s a jagoff.

  12. slowcowboy says:

My first choice was actually Carly. Then Rubio, then Cruz. Jeb was OK.

I will say this, as I have little positive to say about Trump, but it is refreshing to see someone speak like he does, even if I think he’s as much a politician as all the rest of them. He’s an opportunist, sure, but that can be refreshing.

I just worry about our Constitutional system.

    • BrianR says:

Well, I had the exact same worry for the last year I’ve been writing things AGAINST him.

However, I also just can’t stand by and let this country commit suicide by electing Piano Legs.

I think any damage Trump MIGHT do will be due to his blundering, and unintentional; it will be fixable.

All the damage Her Thighness WILL do will be carefully crafted and intentional, and VERY hard to fix.

      • slowcowboy says:

I view it from this lens: Obama has done more than any other to expand the executive branch, circumventing Congress and the Court at every opportunity. Trump will do the same only more. What will happen when Congress ticks him off?

What, then, will the next president do?

      • BrianR says:

To which I respond: What do you think the Hildebeest will do?

ONE of them is going to be President. Who’s the bigger threat?

      • slowcowboy says:

That’s the thing. I don’t trust Trump any more than I do Hillary on that point and may concede that Hillary would honor Congress more. Trump is all about Trump and will act a child when someone ticks him off. He won’t work with Congress. He’s an authoritarian.

He’s also an opportunist who will say what he needs to get what he wants. In other words, I simply dont trust him…

      • BrianR says:

Yeah, I discussed all of that in the essay.

ONE of them’s going to be Prez.

      • slowcowboy says:

Yeah, all of this to say that I really don’t like the choices and have a hard time voting for Trump. I really really don’t like him. I just don’t like Hillary more than I don’t like him.

Its a depressing place to be…

      • BrianR says:

        LOL!

Yeah, that sums I up pretty damned well. I’d rather die in my sleep than burn to death, though I’d really rather not do either.

  13. captbogus2 says:

This last barrage from the faux conservatives ala Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush et al just proves beyond a shadow of a doubt they don’t give a tinker’s damn for the country but only for their place at the trough. They would rather sabotage the Trump campaign and keep the Marxist Democrat Party in power because they will still be assured of their place at the government trough. Bear in mind THEY ARE SELLING YOU OUT for their own self aggrandizement..
Ask yourself why they don’t like Trump and it all boils down to he will definitely upset their cushy little deal they have going AT TAXPAYERS’ EXPENSE.

  14. captbogus2 says:

I read comments from readers…here, at “Nox & Friends” and even on FB page and I understand the “Summer Patriot”. I also understand that there might be a couple million gun owners who would take up arms if threatened but just reading the entries in comments I also understand about 85% have had no military training beyond maybe an old John Wayne movie. The braggadocio would scare the hell out of any sane person. People who have never been shot at telling what they would do under pressure and certain circumstance. Reality ain’t a movie. And it ain’t like John Wayne who got killed in Sands of Iwo Jima but came back for Flying Leathernecks…

    • BrianR says:

      Absolutely true.

Not only that, but I don’t think they understand the level of disruption and destruction that takes place in a war zone, civil or otherwise. It’s not like you could depend on your Netflix coming through okay in such an event. You don’t spend the day talking pot shots at people, and then grab a quick pizza on your way home to watch Dancing With The Stars.

    • Grey Neely says:

I agree captbogus. However during the Revolutionary War it was these same yahoos (without military training) who won at Trenton, Saratoga, Cowpens, and King’s Mountain against the finest army in the world. It was these same yahoos (without military training) who beat the British at the Battle of New Orleans and the trained Mexican Army at San Jacinto.

If these yahoos decide to fight to the death against oppression, I don’t want to be on the opposing side. (And note that I have not said anything yet about the Civil War, WW1, or WW2.)

This same “braggadocio” was written by both sides in the run up the Civil War (see the newspapers of the era and the letters to the editor)..

You and I know that it can get bloody in a hurry and that is why I have increased my praying. You are also correct captbogus, any sane person (generally with military experience) would be scared to hell.

But at this point in time, I doubt anyone will be able to stop whatever is going to happen.

      • captbogus2 says:

Trenton was a surprise attack from an overconfident enemy on a hang over mornng. King’s Mountain and Cowpens the Americans used tactics not suited to the British idea of lining up and taking group pot shots at each other. The Alamo delayed the Mexican Army while the Texan Army had training. The ‘trained’ Mexican Army consisted of a core of professionals and a shitload of conscripts, many picked up on the march North. The Battle of New Orleans was not all militia and the British again depended on European tactics not suited to what Jackson was doing. The braggadocio before Fort Sumpter was foolish talk by pretty ignorant folks in the South and sounds more like what I read daily. Fools who actually thought one Southerner could ‘whup’ 10 Yankees. Fools who never thought about the Agricultural South vs the Industrial North. WW1 and WW2 the brag stopped if not in basic training at least with the first hostile shells. Folks who have been shot at are not so quick to boast as pissignorant fools who don’t know what they are talking about.

  15. CW says:

There’s never been any question, at least for me, that Trump would be a better president than Hillary. Who wouldn’t be, given that low standard? The bigger question is: What happens to the future of conservatism – and therefore the nation – if Trump wins? I don’t fault conservatives if they decide to suck it up and pulling the lever for Trump given the alternative, but it’s going to mean that there is no immediate consequence for the betrayal, and therefore no lesson learned. The ship will avoid the precipice for now, hopefully, but it will continue to sail further and further from home until at some point it becomes hopelessly lost.

    • BrianR says:

Yep, CW, that certainly IS a very important aspect of the issue.

I’ve already written my next column, and am holding it for a day or two in order to see if my local paper will run it (They won’t publish something I’ve already posted; copyright issues). It’s on that topic.

Here’s my take. If Trump wins, it would hopefully force the GOP to reassess their past actions of the last couple of decades, and hopefully change course. But if Trump LOSES, look for things to get even worse from them, because then the Establishment hacks can use it as a justification for being even MORE Dem-Lite than they’ve been up to now.

In some respects, this Trump phenomenon reminds me of the “Reagan Revolution”, because he was also an “outsider” who took over that party. Unfortunately, Trump’s not at all “Reaganesque” in any other manner.

      • CW says:

I don’t want to get ahead of your upcoming post but the ascendance of Trump has opened my eyes to the reality that what I once thought was a two-way division (RINOs vs. conservatives) is actually a three-way division between the so-called “establishment” Republicans, principled conservatives and what I would consider to be faux or flexible conservatives solely focused on keeping an individual out of office (a short-term goal) rather than stopping progressivism at large. I agree, a Trump win would be a rebuke to “the establishment” (I put that in quotes because it tends to be very loosely defined), but IMHO it would also reward and embolden those who have forsaken conservative ideals, which is why I see a Trump win as a big loss for conservatism even if it takes Hillary out in the short term.

You’re quite right that Trump is not Reagan-esque. He doesn’t possess Reagan’s admirable demeanor, his humility, his character or his deeper understanding of why conservatism is important. There’s not much left after that, except age perhaps.

I look forward to reading your next post!

      • BrianR says:

I agree with everything you wrote, CW. In NO way am I a Trumpite. And yeah, even if he wins the election, the Establishment hacks can spin that, too.

As you said, Trump is NO traditional conservative, and nowhere even close to being a “constitutional conservative”. That’s exactly the dilemma in this election. ONE of those two is going to win, and in some respects we conservatives don’t have a horse in the race. I view this election as a holding action, a dam against the outrages the Hildebeest will try to perpetrate. In some ways a Trump win is a Pyrrhic victory at best.

C’mon, BB. Think, “SCOTUS.” Keeping Hillary’s claws off that is worth Trump getting elected alone. What area is Trump less than conservative? Remember Reagan was not only once a Democrat but he actually toyed with the idea of the CPUSA…

I agree, Buck, and mentioned SCOTUS myself in my essay. That alone IS a valid reason enough.

My point in the past, and in this essay, has been that we really don’t know WHAT he’s going to do once he’s in office. He could be great, he could be a disaster. Who knows?

But no matter what, he’ll be WAY better than Piano Legs. No doubt.
